Mother's Day, La Paz, 2011

As  is some of the other countries where we have lived, Mother's Day is not the second Sunday of May, but always falls on the same day every year.  We recently celebrated Mother's Day here in La Paz.

The mothers of the congregation heard a message based on the life of Rebecca and her childraising methods.  They were encouraged not to follow her example of deceit and lies to obtain what she wanted for her son.  Rather, God wants us to trust Him in all things and follow His Word even when it seems contrary to our reason.

After the worship service, the women were seated around a table and treated to a program of songs, poems and skits by the children and youth group of the congregation.  The men served a meal that they had prepared.

The following Saturday of the same week, the Women's Group hosted a Tea for the women of the congregation.  We give thanks to God for our mothers who gave us physical life and also thank God who gives mothers who care for our spiritual lives as well.

Preparing Leaders

"Now the Bereans were of more noble character than the Thessalonians, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true".

The classes with the congregational leaders have begun with prayers that the Holy Spirit will work in these leaders the desire to study the Word and to teach these truths to others. There exists a great deal of confusion about "biblical" truth since the people have been exposed to many different, false teachings. Many hearts are still burdened with trying to fulfill the works of the law: fasting, tithing, working for their salvation. After hearing a presentation of basic law and gospel, some have commented that the "scales were falling off their eyes". The Holy Spirit is leading them to see that Jesus has already completed all the law for us. We pray that these leaders continue to grow in their faith in the Savior and that they would be motivated to teach these truths to others.
